Training for software development and cloud engineering
velpTEC is a German online professional-education provider, largely funded through the Bildungsgutschein issued by the Federal Employment Agency. We run the training there: software development through to advanced topics such as cloud engineering.

Challenge
The groups are mixed: career changers with no background sit next to people who have already written code. Both need the same thing in the end, knowledge that holds up on the job rather than only in an exam. With cloud topics in particular it is tempting to quiz people on terminology instead of building understanding.
Approach
We train live and along real work rather than along slides. The path runs from a first program of your own through version control and Linux fundamentals to actually deploying and operating a containerised application on cloud infrastructure. Mistakes happen in the session, because that is exactly where you can explain why something went wrong.
Outcome
Participants leave with skills they can apply immediately rather than a certificate about vocabulary. For us the training doubles as a constant reality check: anything you cannot explain clearly usually is not a good architecture either.
