Software Agency Hourly Rates in Germany (2026): What You Actually Pay
In 2026, German software agencies charge €85–€180/hour depending on size and specialization. Freelancers: €60–€140. Enterprise consultancies: €160–€250. But the hourly rate is the wrong metric — a €150/hour senior who ships in 3 weeks beats a €90/hour team that takes 8.
Rate transparency is rare in this market, so here's real data — from our own quotes, from projects we've taken over, and from what clients tell us they were paying before.
The 2026 rate landscape
| Provider type | Hourly rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Junior freelancer | €60–€90 | Well-specified small tasks |
| Senior freelancer | €95–€140 | Focused expertise, one workstream |
| Boutique agency (2–10 people) | €95–€160 | MVPs, product development, ownership |
| Mid-size agency (10–50) | €110–€180 | Larger builds, multiple teams |
| Enterprise consultancy | €160–€250 | Compliance-heavy corporate projects |
| Nearshore/offshore | €30–€75 | Big teams — if you can manage them |
Why the cheapest rate is usually the most expensive project
Hourly rate tells you what an hour costs. It doesn't tell you how many hours you'll buy. The failure mode we see most often: a project starts with the cheapest offer, burns six months, and then lands on our desk for a rebuild. The agency handoff problem is real, and it's mostly a rate-shopping problem.
Three questions that predict project cost better than the rate:
- Who actually writes the code? The people in the pitch or a rotating bench?
- What ships in week two? If the answer is "a concept document," multiply the estimate.
- What happens after launch? Handoff quality decides your total cost of ownership.
Fixed price vs. time & materials
For well-scoped MVPs, we prefer fixed-price milestones: you know the number, we carry the risk of our own estimates. Time & materials makes sense once the product exists and priorities shift weekly. Anyone offering fixed price on a vague scope is either padding heavily or planning a change-request business.
What we charge
We're a boutique agency, and we're in the range above. More useful than the rate: an MVP with us costs €25,000–€120,000 depending on tier, scoped and fixed before we start.
